After returning home she and Gil were blessed with four daughters.

In her early days after chores of farm duties, she worked as a sales lady at Ardoin's Clothing and Etc. Store. She then went on to manage her uncle's hardware store and open her own fabric store. After her husband passed away in 1965 she replaced him as Register of Voters in Evangeline Parish until she retired.
Vernice loved people of all ages, and always had a pot of coffee brewing for friends stopping by for a visit. She loved sewing beautiful clothes for her daughters. She enjoyed traveling, entertaining, cooking, gardening, canning and the outdoors.

She is survived her four daughters, Rowena V. Butler and husband Ronnie of Ranger, TX, Roberta Lafleur of Ville Platte, Brenda Fruge of Ville Platte and Joan Landreneau and husband Ronnie of Ville Platte; grandchildren, Katie Lafleur, Jackie LeCompte, Ron Butler, II, Michele Ritter, Michael Butler, Jay LaFleur, Nicky Perrodin, Todd LaFleur, Scottie LaFleur, and Danny LaFleur; 23 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Woodrow Morein; three sisters, Lula M. Soileau, Genevieve Fontenot and Lena Vidrine.
