Verby Pauline Delafosse Fontenot

Verby Pauline Delafosse Fontenot passed away peacefully on December 24, 2023, at the age of 82, in her hometown of Ville Platte, Louisiana.

Verby was born on October 3, 1941, in Grand Prairie, Louisiana. When she married, she moved to Lake Charles, LA with her husband, Dewey Fontenot and raised their five children.  She retired from the Kroger Co., after 35 years of service as a cashier where she made many friends who were returning customers. She also loved to watch football and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by one sister, Myrtle Landreneau of Mamou, LA; three sons, James Fontenot (Regina), Chuck Fontenot (Donna) and Jacob Fontenot (Erron); one daughter, Margaret Fontenot Bourke, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Jospeh and Eula Delafosse; her daughter, Dorothy Fontenot; her son, Johnathon Fontenot; her brothers, Ray Delafosse, Hersey Delafosse, J.D. Delafosse, Verlon Delafosse, Herley Delafosse, and Donald Delafosse; and her sisters, Molly Tate, Hazel Ortego, and Janette Comeaux.

The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Ville Platte, who were great to their mother and thank the staff at Mercy Hospital for her care, along with Alliance Hospice.  

A memorial service will be at a later date for family and friends of Verby Pauline Delafosse Fontenot.
