VILLE PLATTE – Funeral services will be held at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of all Saints Catholic Church in Ville Platte on Monday, November 9, 2020 for Una Fontenot, 94, who passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, November 6, 2020.
Father Andrew Killen will be celebrant of the Mass and will conduct funeral services.
Burial will take place in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery.
Una Fontenot was a lifelong resident of Ville Platte in the Tate Cove community. She was the daughter of the late Adam Tate and the former Atille Guillory. Una was a graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic School in 1944; she then married Elmand Ray Fontenot in 1945 and they resided together in the Tate Cove community. Elmand and Una owned and operated Elmand Fontenot’s Grocery Store in Tate Cove from 1946 until 1994 and Elmand’s Country Kitchen from 1985 and 1994. In addition, Una owned and operated Una’s Fashion in Ville Platte from 1978 until 1980. The couple also farmed in Tate Cove from 1955 until 1984. They were both wonderful mentors for their children and other close family members.
Una was kind hearted and enjoyed working and teaching her children how to work hard and be successful. She always encouraged her children and instilled the importance of education and Catholic faith. Una was very proud that her four children were all college graduates. Una was a wonderful grandmother to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and always looked forward to Sunday family gatherings. Una will be greatly missed and fondly remembered as a kind, loving, and hard working mother.
Una is survived by her two sons, Mitchell James Fontenot and wife, Jackie, and Eugene M. Fontenot, MD and wife, Joanne; daughter, Rita Faye Smart and husband, Anson; 9 grandchildren, Tony Manuel, Andrea Suarez, Jessica Moorehead, Jennifer Earnhart and husband, Sid, Joshua Fontenot and wife, Megan, Sara Lafleur and husband, Trey, Jacob Fontenot and wife ,Aimee, Katherine Fontenot, and Garret Smart; and 14 great grandchildren.
Una was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Elmand Ray Fontenot; daughter, Dianna Fontenot Manuel; sisters, Rose Ardoin, Ura Duos, and Lou Jane Guillory; and brothers, Wilson Tate and Willis Tate.
Pallbearers for the services will be Joshua Fontenot, Jacob Fontenot, Holden Manuel, Brenden Manuel, Trey Lafleur, and Anson Smart.
The family would like to thank Una’s care givers, Kathy Fontenot, Walter Tezeno, Ella Levine, Sharon Fontenot, and Michelle Bolfa for their compassionate care and the staff at Unlimited Home Care.
The family requests that visitation be observed at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Sunday, November 8 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will resume on Monday, November 9 from 8:00 AM until time of service. A rosary will be recited on Sunday evening at 6:00 PM.
For the safety of all family and friends, the family requests that masks be worn during visitation and services.
