Peggy Theresa Ritter was born in Ville Platte on August 24, 1961 to Henry Lee and Bonnie Fontenot Ritter. She always sought the good out of life and strived to make others laugh and smile. As a young girl, Peggy enjoyed playing softball and cheerleading. One of Peggy’s fondest memories was working at Camp Mary Hill in Pineville where she worked with children as a camp supervisor. In high school, Peggy was selected for the homecoming court. She graduated from Ville Platte High School in 1979 and received a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from McNeese State University in 1985. Her teaching career was spent teaching History at Ville Platte High School. Peggy served on the board of the Louisiana Cotton Festival for many years helping with the festival queens and contestants. She often attended the LAFF convention representing the festival and supporting their reigning queen. Peggy was also a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Ville Platte VFW Chapter 3608 and spent many hours helping with fundraisers. During her later years, Peggy resided at Village De Memoire where she spent her days helping the other residence in whatever way she could, especially with technology and party planning. Although Peggy faced many medical obstacles in her lifetime, she met each one with courage and determination. Peggy’s love of God was her comfort throughout her life. She knew her strength was derived through Him. Peggy served as an inspiration for her family and friends and will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind.
