Nella Win Fontenot Hazard

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nella Win Fontenot Hazard, a beloved resident of Ville Platte, Louisiana, peacefully passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on April 2, 1927, Nella lived a life filled with love, dedication, and a deep commitment to her family and community. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church on Friday, March 28, 2025, beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery with Father Tom Voorhies officiating.

Nella was a cherished retired teacher, dedicating over 20 years to the education of young minds in Evangeline Parish, teaching Elementary Science at Ville Platte High, as well as Ville Platte Lower. Her passion for teaching and nurturing students left an indelible mark on the lives of many. Nella was known for her daily practice of praying the rosary, reflecting her profound faith and devotion.

An avid gardener, Nella found joy in nurturing her flowers and spent countless hours outdoors, where she felt most alive. Known for her exceptional ability to recall where everything was, she held a remarkable presence in the lives of her family and friends.

Nella is survived by her loving son, Charles William Hazard, and her dear nephew, David Paul Fontenot.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Hazard; her parents, Hosea and Lydia Fontenot; and her brother, Calvin Fontenot.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Nella. Visitation will take place on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Ville Platte from 7:30 AM until the time of the rosary at 10:15 AM.
