Nancy Hamlin, a beloved educator and cherished mother peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the age of 92. A lifelong resident of Ville Platte, Nancy dedicated her life to nurturing the minds and hearts of her community through her work as a teacher. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Gates of Heaven Cemetery with Father Stephen Pellessier officiating the service.
Nancy spent over 35 years teaching at Ville Platte’s Lower Elementary School, inspiring countless students to embrace learning. Her dedication to education extended beyond the classroom, as she served a significant 16 years as a member of the Evangeline Parish School Board. Nancy also showcased her entrepreneurial spirit through the operation of her dress shop, A La' Mode, which became a favorite in the community.
She had a passion for cooking, reading, card playing, spending time with family and participating with her friends in Pokeno club. She was known for her warm spirit, compassion, and unwavering support for her loved ones, a legacy that will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Nancy will be profoundly missed by her family, particularly her greatest joys—her sons, Bobby Max Hamlin and wife, Shelley; Gladney Ardoin Hamlin and wife, June; her daughters, Susanna Marie Hamlin and Leah Nell Hamlin and, husband, Ricky Powell; and her cherished grandchildren: Max, Joseph, John, William Matthew, Sarah, Catherine, Jonathan, Leslie, Richard, Emily, Reg, Ross, and Rhys. Additionally, she leaves behind 34 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren who will forever cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gladney Thompson Ardoin and Nell Levy Ardoin.
Visitation will begin at 8:30 AM, followed by the recitation of the rosary at 10:30 AM, leading into a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in honor of Mrs. Nancy Hamlin.
Her memory will forever resonate in the lives of those she touched with her kindness, wisdom, and love.
