VILLE PLATTE - Mattie Marie Demoruelle Buller, a dedicated educator who touched the lives of many through her passion for teaching, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, in Ville Platte, Louisiana at the age of 81. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, and exceptional talent. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 20, 2024 at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery with Father Alex Lancon as Celebrant.
Born on Monday, September 28, 1942 in Ville Platte, Mattie's journey was marked by significant achievements. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from USL and later obtained a Master's Degree from McNeese State University. Mattie dedicated over three decades of her life to teaching in Evangeline Parish, where she found joy in sharing her knowledge especially when it came to teaching French and piano with those eager to learn. Her talents extended beyond education and music to include sewing, where she was an accomplished member of the quilting club.
Mattie was known for her warm and welcoming personality. She had a special gift for making everyone feel important and loved. A devout Catholic, Mattie served the Lord faithfully by using her talent of playing the piano for Masses at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years. She prayed the rosary daily and was an active member of the Catholic Daughters.
One of Mattie's proudest accomplishments was being named Evangeline Parish's "Family of the Year," in 1996 which served as a testament to the love, care and dedication she poured into her family.
Mattie Marie Buller peacefully left this world to meet her Lord and Savior but will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Her memory will continue to inspire all those who were touched by her kindness and grace including her daughter, Lorraine Israel Doucet and husband, Joe; and three sons, Byron Buller, Lucas Buller and wife, Kelli, and Phillip Buller. Also left behind to cherish her memory are her eleven grandchildren, Monique Hebert (Zack), April Fontenot (Nick), Lizzy Buller, Sam Buller, Sarah Mayeaux (Ryan), Sadie Morgan (Trey), Mattie Jane Buller, Tana Horn (Luke), Jordan Israel, Zach Israel (Allye), and Jonas Ashton Israel; and thirteen great-grandchildren: Hewitt, Hayes, Halle, Hudson, Audrey, Rhett, Nolan, Jack, Luke, Avery, Bailey, Corbin, and Declan.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Lawrence “Larry” Buller; parents, Eloi and Marie Elizabeth Demoruelle; sister, Ruby Nell Demoruelle; brothers, Rodrick, L.P., and Owen Demoruelle; and son in law, Scott Israel.
In honoring Mattie's life and legacy, friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Sunday, May 19th beginning at 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM and again on Monday, May 20th beginning at 8:00 AM until time of dismissal for the Mass. A rosary will be recited Sunday evening at 6:00 PM.
