VILLE PLATTE It is with great sadness that the family of M. Helen Ortego, 86, announces her passing on Monday, October 22, 2012 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 PM Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church of Ville Platte. Rite of Committal will follow at the Evangeline Memorial Park Mausoleum in Ville Platte with Fr. Garrett McIntyre officiating.
A devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Helen leaves behind her two sons: Eddie Ortego and his wife, Nancy of Lewisburg and Brent Ortego of Victoria, Texas and her four daughters: Sharlene Znamierowski and her husband, Joseph of Ville Platte, Jackie Berzas and her husband, John of Abbeville, Joan LeMoine and her husband, Peter of Ville Platte and Celeste Dupre and her husband, Tim of Prairieville. Her memory will most certainly be cherished by her seventeen grandchildren and her twenty seven great grandchildren they were truly the light of her life.
Helen was a lifelong Catholic and an active member of the local Come Lord Jesus Group she was also a member of the Ladies Altar Society at her beloved church, Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church of Ville Platte.
She now joins in Heaven her loving husband, Gussie Ortego and her parents, Leonard Black and Leah LaFleur. They await her arrival with open arms and joyous hearts.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home of Ville Platte beginning at 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 23, 2012 and continuing until 9:00 PM that evening and will resume at 8:00 AM Wednesday and continue until the time of services. A Rosary will be recited in her honor at 6:30 PM Tuesday evening.
