VILLE PLATTE-Funeral Services will be held at a 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, for Marie Leola Ortego, 85, who passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019 in Ville Platte, LA surrounded by her loved ones.

Father Tom Voorhies, Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, will be celebrant of the mass and will conduct all funeral services.

Burial will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Marie Leola Ortego was born in St. Landry Parish, LA on August 18, 1933 to JD Arceneaux and Eulalie Mallet Arceneaux. Marie grew up on a farm where she grew up picking cotton. In her youth she played six-man basketball in Leonville. She always dreamed of becoming a teacher. Marie graduated from LSI in Lafayette, LA with a teaching degree. She went on to teach at Ville Platte Lower for 35 years. Teaching was her passion. She loved working with her students even if it meant on her days off. Marie was a devout Catholic and an active member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Her family was her pride and joy. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow-up and attending their sporting events. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Shawn P. Ortego and wife Lorise of Ville Platte; three grandsons, Jacob Ortego and wife Hanna of Youngsville, Brad M. Ortego and wife Ramsey of Ville Platte and Brian A. Ortego and wife Fallan of Ville Platte; five great-grandchildren, Rivers, Celeste, Simone, Wesley and Remi-Kate; and one sister, Velma Hebert of Lafayette.

She is preceded in death by her parents, J.D. Arceneaux and Eulalie Mallet Arceneaux; her husband, Clevan "Cleve" Ortego and two sisters, Ruby Gautreaux and Ethal Arceneaux.

The family requests that visitation be observed at Ardoin's Funeral Home of Ville Platte on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 from 4:00 PM - 9:00 PM. A rosary will be recited by Deacon Ben Soileau at 6:30 PM Tuesday. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 from 8:00 AM until time of service.
