Ms. LaTour died Monday, December 30, 2024, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She was born on Christmas Day, 1944, in London, England, to Iris Spencer LaTour and Raymond LaTour Sr.
After high school graduation, Elaine attended T.H. Harris Community College and later moved to New Orleans and began work in the business office at Charity Hospital. She remained there until 2005 when Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, including her home. She was transferred to the VA Medical Center in Alexandria, where she worked until 2007, when she retired and returned to Ville Platte to care for her mother. Following retirement, she remained close with several former colleagues, visiting them and attending plays with them. She was an avid animal lover who enjoyed the companionship of many pet dogs and cats over the years.
Elaine was a member of the church choir, the Catholic Daughters, and Come Lord Jesus. She was an avid reader and a baker of her famous gingersnap cookies, shortbread, and loaves of bread. She continued her mother’s tradition of making Christmas Pudding every year, enlisting the help of her nieces (Heather and Melanie) and their children.
Elaine enjoyed traveling with her mother and sisters over the years, including many trips to England to visit relatives. The most recent sister trip was in the summer of 2023, when they traveled to England on the Queen Mary 2 to visit their cousins.
Elaine is survived by her sisters, Iris Chauffe (Wayne) and Catherine LaTour (Richard Zeutenhorst); brothers, Raymond LaTour Jr. (Suzanne) and Edmund LaTour (Pamela Jenkins); her nieces and nephews, John and Stephen Chauffe, Heather Bogard, Melanie Bordelon, Conrad and Michael Zeutenhorst, Robin Hermann, Malinda Brown, Daniel Thibodeaux and Regina and Selina Myers; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Donations in her memory can be made to the Evangeline Parish Library, Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, the Leukemia Research Foundation (https://leukemiarf.org/), and MD Anderson (https://gifts.mdanderson.org/).
