It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret Idell Gormanous Fontenot, 67, of Pine Prairie, Louisiana on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Born in Oakdale on November 2, 1957, Margaret dedicated her life to her family and loved ones, embodying the spirit of devotion and compassion in all she did. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Pine Prairie, Louisiana on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Beaver Creek Cemetery.
Margaret found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from tending to her flowers and plants to feeding the deer and hummingbirds that frequented her yard. As a devout Catholic, she embraced her faith wholeheartedly and would be found praying the rosary daily. Shopping was a cherished activity for her, particularly the joy of selecting beautiful clothes for her family. Margaret was known for her unique style and never left home without her beloved lipstick.
She will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Patrick Fontenot, with whom she shared 49 wonderful years of marriage. She leaves behind her devoted daughters: Dawn Dixon (Jason), Mary LeJeune (Rodney), Adrian Cole Randall), and Whitney Deshotels (Matthew), along with her son, Neal Fontenot, and companion Leigh LaHaye. She cherished her role as a grandmother to Harley, Colton, Isabella, Madalyn, Josie, Luca, Laura, Randi, Gracelyn, Ella, Waylon, Lincoln, Talon, Sawyer, and Evanna, and was blessed with great-grandchildren Lydia, Wade, Lawson, Dean, and Huntley.
Margaret is also survived by her sister, Celeste Gormanous, and brother, Tony Gormanous (Janet), as well as sisters-in-law Tammy, Angela, Debbie, and Judy, and brothers-in-law David, Dennis, and Lance. She leaves behind a host of friends and extended family who will miss her dearly.
Margaret has been reunited with her parents, Pete Gormanous and Della Veillon Gormanous, and her late brother David Gormanous in eternal rest.
