Ville Platte It is with great sadness that the family of Gussie Ortego, 84, announces his passing on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Opelousas General Hospital A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2010. at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte. Rite of Committal will follow at Evangeline Memorial Park.
Gussie was a retired toolpusher with Loffland Brothers. A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather, he will be lovingly remembered by his wife Helen Lafleur Ortego of Ville Platte, two sons Eddie Ortego and wife Nancy of Lewisburg and Brent Ortego and wife Sue of Victoria, TX, four daughters Sharlene Znamierowski and husband Joe of Dracut, MA, Jacklyn Jackie Berzas and husband John C. of Abbeville, Joan Lemoine and husband Peter of Ville Platte, Celeste Dupre and husband Tim of Prairieville, three brothers Willis Fontenot and Paul Glavin Fontenot both of Ville Platte and Joseph Gurvis Fontenot of Lake Charles, one sister Shirley Ann Burnett of Monroe, seventeen grandchildren and twentysix great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Louis and Lela Johnson Ortego, great grandson Austin Lebouef, and sisters Nazel Soileau, Gladys Thompson, and Elsie Fontenot.
The family request that visiting hours be observed Sunday, January 17, 2010 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Monday, January 18, 2010 from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm, and Tuesday, January 19, 2010 from 8:00 am until time of service. A rosary will be recited Monday, January 18, 2010 at 6:30pm .
