Larry Loyd Fontenot, 82, of Bayou Chicot, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 24, 2024. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served with honor in the rank of Sergeant. Larry was known for his dedicated and loyal nature, and he exemplified a hardworking spirit throughout his life.
Professionally, Larry was an inspector for the Louisiana Department of Transportation. His commitment to his work was unwavering, and he took pride in ensuring the safety of the communities he served.
Larry’s life was rich with interests and hobbies that embodied the warmth of his personality. He cherished time spent hunting, fishing, and camping, as well as gardening — activities that brought him closer to nature. Larry also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, often found watching Saturday morning cartoons and enjoying a plate of his favorite spaghetti. Fixing motors was one of his many interests and talents.
Above all, Larry was immensely proud of his role as a husband, dad, and granddad, dedicated to his family and nurturing those relationships with love. His legacy will be fondly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Faye Fontenot; two sons, Darren (Sandy) Fontenot and Patrick (Angie) Fontenot; daughter, April Cavallo (Kyle); eleven grandchildren, Morgan Fontenot, Maddie Fontenot Kirsch, Tatyana Fontenot, Jonathan Fontenot, Noah Fontenot, Reece Cavallo, Matthew Fontenot, Braden Fontenot, Luke Cavallo, Molly Fontenot, and Soleil Cavallo. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his sisters, Bonnie Hollier and Debby Lawson.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Eldrige and Emily Fontenot.
Visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a rosary, led by Deacon Tim Donovan, at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM, leading to a Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Father Dugas, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Pine Prairie at 10:00 AM, with the burial following at Vandenburg Cemetery in Turkey Creek at 11:00 AM.
Larry’s kindness, work ethic, and dedication to family will forever remain in the hearts of those that loved him.
