VILLE PLATTE It is with great sadness that the family of Joyce Fusilier Fontenot, 86, announces her passing on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Ville Platte Medical Center. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte. Rite of committal will follow in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery with Fr. Mario Romero celebrant.

After completing business school, Joyces first job was at the state capitol in Baton Rouge which molded her future. She then continued her career working at the Housing Authority, Paul Reeds law office, the welfare office, and the Evangeline Parish Library. Mrs. Fontenot was known for her love of music and genealogy. She loved playing the accordion and researching family trees of people she was close to. Joyce published a book in 1996 entitled, Life and Times of Oscar Fusilier and Family.

A loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be lovingly remembered by one daughter Chrysanna Fontenot Attales and husband Wayne of Ville Platte, a son-in-law Keith Vizinat of Prairieville, two sisters Elva Fusilier Soileau of Ville Platte and Rowena Fusilier LaFleur of Morgan City, five grandchildren Julie Attales Flake, Shelley Attales Roberts, Lauran Attales, Brittany Vizinat, and Mary Vizinat, seven great-grandchildren Bradford, Catherine, Alaina, Matthew, Christopher, Anna Claire, and Laura Elizabeth.

Mrs. Fontenot was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Lionel Fontenot, her daughter Elizabeth Marita Fontenot Vizinat, a granddaughter Allison Elizabeth Vizinat and her parents Oscar Black and Atile Lafleur Fusilier.

The family request that visiting hours be observed Monday, November 23, 2009 from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM and again on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 from 8:00 AM until time of service. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM Monday evening.
