VILLE PLATTE A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte for the Rev. Dr. Joseph Harris Soileau, Sr.,86, who passed away at his residence on Sunday, October 7, 2012. Interment will take place at the Sacred Heart Mausoleum.
Father Gary Schexnayder will officiate the funeral ceremony with Deacon Gene LeBoeuf assisting. Readers will be Richard Tullous, Chet McCauley and Patricia Johnson Enicke. Gift bearers will be Zoe Billeaud and Jana Miller Brown. Eucharistic Ministers will be Ralph Brandt and Sherrell LeBoeuf.
Dr. Soileau is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lou Morein Soileau and three children: Joseph H. Soileau, Jr. and his wife, Monica of Crowley, Sarah Soileau Billeaud of Lafayette and Philip James Soileau of New Orleans, four grandchildren: Alexis Billeaud Tullous, Leigh S. Billeaud, Audrey E. Billeaud and Matthew Joubert Soileau, one great granddaughter: Zoe Marie Billeuad and one sister: Peggy Soileau Fontenot of Baton Rouge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Helen Bordelon Soileau and his soninlaw Stephen Olivier Billeaud.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict.
A graduate of Chicot High School, he attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana and the L.S.U. School of Medicine, graduating in 1959. He practiced General Medicine and Surgery in Ville Platte for several years before completing a residency in Radiology. He practiced in the Ville Platte area for over thirty years.
In 1988 he was ordained a permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church. He served at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte.
Pall bearers will be Bobby Buller, Keith Miller, Don Morein, Dave Morein, Ricky Johnson and Matthew Soileau.
The Soileau family requests that visitation be observed on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:30 PM and visitation will continue on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 10:00 AM until the time of the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that consideration be given to Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care of Mamou andor the Sacred Heart School Foundation of Ville Platte.
