Joseph Clifford "J.C." Ortego, Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, sibling, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on January 1, 1954, J.C. was a man whose life was marked by hard work, dedication, and an unwavering love for his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Monday, February 17, 2025, beginning at 10:00 am with the burial to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery with Father Dugas officiating over services.

Throughout his career, J.C. made an indelible mark in the automotive world, owning and operating his Exxon service station and automotive repair shop. He was a skilled automotive and diesel mechanic, a machinist, and an HVAC repairman, demonstrating a remarkable ability to solve problems and provide unmatched service. His commitment to his craft was evident in every project he undertook, embodying the epitome of diligence and passion. One of his last major projects was an engine replacement for his grandsons 2008 Scion xB when he was 68 years old, for which he refused to take payment.

Beyond his professional life, J.C. was a man of many interests and talents. He had a profound appreciation for gardening, classic cars, tractors, and the great outdoors. His love for nature found expression in fishing, squirrel hunting, and camping, activities that brought him joy and connections with family and friends. J.C. devoted much of his time to helping others, extending his skills and kindness to those around him.

Family held a special place in J.C.'s heart, and he took immense pride in the milestones of his loved ones. His proudest accomplishments included the marriage of his beloved wife Veronica Lynn Ortego, the births of his two sons, Joshua and Devin, and the arrival of his cherished grandchildren, Nicholas and Sarah. These moments defined his life, filling it with joy and purpose.

J.C. will be deeply missed by his family: his beloved sons, Joshua Randall Ortego and Devin Chase Ortego; his partner, Cassandra Guillory; his sister, Angelique Dupre; his brother-in-law, Kelton Dupre; his daughter-in-law, Tiffany Ortego; his grandson, Nicholas Randall Ortego; and his granddaughter, Sarah Lynn Ortego. He is also remembered fondly by his sister-in-law, Ramona Compton, and brother-in-law, Jason Compton, as well as his niece, Brandy Dupre Fontenot, and nephew, Jarrad Scott Dupre.

J.C. now joins his dear departed family, including his mother Beatrice L. Lafleur, his father Joseph Clifford Ortego Sr., and his cherished wife Veronica Lynn Ortego, who he loved deeply and missed dearly.

Visitation services will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Ville Platte, LA, on Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 3 PM to 8 PM, with a rosary service beginning at 6 PM by Deacon Ben Soileau.

As we remember J.C., we celebrate a life well-lived, a legacy of love, hard work, and unwavering dedication to family. May his spirit continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
