VILLE PLATTE – Joseph Gary “Boddie” Fontenot, a resident of Baton Rouge passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, following a short illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte. Burial will follow in the Bieber/First Baptist Cemetery with Father Alex Lancon officiating services.
Gary was born on March 2, 1965 in Ville Platte, Louisiana. He was raised in Ville Platte and graduated from Ville Platte High School. Gary began his career as a meat cutter and dedicated three decades of his life to his craft. He worked tirelessly at Swagman's and Albertson's, putting his skills to use. Gary’s expertise in his profession earned him admiration from colleagues and customers alike.
Outside of work, Gary had a passion for hunting and fishing. The thrill of the hunt and the tranquility of being out on the water brought him immeasurable joy. His love for adventure extended beyond these activities as he embarked on numerous trips across the United States, exploring the diverse landscapes that our country has to offer. Through his travels, Gary managed to witness the beauty of most states, creating cherished memories along the way.
Gary was proud of his talent when it came to preparing his own smoked meat, sausage, tasso, and boudin. Whether it was a family gathering or a friendly get-together, Gary’s delectable creations always left everyone wanting more. Gary has left an indelible mark on the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him. His kindness, dedication, and zest for life serve as an enduring reminder of what it means to truly live.
Family was always at the center of Gary’s life. He was married to the love of his life, Daffle Darbonne Fontenot for twenty-eight years. Their partnership was one based on unwavering support and mutual respect, a bond that weathered life's joys and sorrows.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Alicia Landreneau and her boyfriend, Jonathon Rivet. Gary was a devoted father who enjoyed watching Alicia grow and accomplish her goals in life. His heart also swelled with joy upon the arrival of his grandchildren, Kinsley Garrison, Colton Rivet, Kira Rivet, and Trevor Rivet. They brought great happiness into his life. Gary is also survived by one brother, Tony Dale Fontenot.
Gary is preceded in death by his father, Harry Lee Fontenot; mother, Emilie Fontenot; and brother, Ricky James Fontenot.
A visitation honoring Gary’s life will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Ville Platte, on Friday, January 5th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary scheduled that evening. On Saturday, January 6th, visitation will resume from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM.
