VILLE PLATTE - Jennie L. Nicholas, a lifelong resident of Ville Platte, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at the age of 92. Funeral services will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 11:00 am with Deacon Ben Soileau conducting services. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum.
Jennie L. Nicholas was born on February 12, 1931 in Ville Platte, Louisiana to Elie and Ollie Fontenot Duos. Jennie was gifted with many talents which included being a beautiful majorette. In her younger years, twirling was her passion and she enjoyed sharing it by teaching others to twirl. Jennie loved the art of photography and through her business, Nicholas Studios, she was able to capture on film the most important events such as weddings of her customers’ lives. Jennie also loved to sew, especially wedding dresses and costumes. In addition to being a photographer and seamstress, Jennie also taught kindergarten for over five years. Her greatest joy and accomplishment was that of being a loving wife and caring mother. Jennie will be greatly missed by family and friends; she will always hold a special place in their hearts.
Jennie leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Craig Nicholas; daughter, Nicki Davenport and husband, Billy Joe; grandchildren, Bryan Nicholas and wife, Beth, Lacey Carroll and husband, Danny, and Billy Davenport and wife, Amy; and step grandson, Derek Landry and wife, Lexie. Also left behind are her great grandchildren, Madison, Morgan, Jacob, Mary-Catherine, James, Walker, and Harper and nieces, Sherrie Veillon, and Melanie Fogle; and nephew, Roby Fogle.
Jennie is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe “Nick” Nicholas; sister, Geraldine “Chick” Fogle; parents, Elie and Ollie Fontenot Duos; and daughter-in-law, Glenda Nicholas.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Monday, March 27 beginning at 9:00 am until time of service.
The Nicholas family sends out a special thank you to the Medical Staff at Heritage Manor Nursing Home and Shea Veillon who loved and took care of her for 5 years.
