VILLE PLATTE - Funeral services for James Vernon "Vern" Lafleur will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Ardoin's Funeral Home of Ville Platte, followed by a burial at Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery. Vern Lafleur, a beloved member of the community, passed away peacefully at Riverside Hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana on Saturday, October 14, 2023.

Born on September 18, 1939, in Ville Platte to the late Adam and Lillie Soileau Lafleur, Vern Lafleur lived a remarkable life filled with love and dedication to his family and work. He was the owner and operator of Vern's Outboard Repair, where he served his customers with unmatched sincerity and expertise. He also worked for the Evangeline Parish School Board as a Bus Driver.

Vern served his country as a proud member of the United States Army. His commitment to his nation exemplified his extraordinary character and unwavering sense of duty. Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Vern loved nothing more than spending time outdoors. Fishing and hunting were not just hobbies for him; they were profound sources of joy and solace.

As we gather to bid farewell to Vern Lafleur, we remember him not only for his remarkable achievements but also as a devoted husband and father. He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Jenette Lafleur, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Together they created a loving home filled with laughter and cherished memories. Vern was also a dedicated father to their daughter Sue Lafleur and her partner Dr. Leno Congtang. His guidance and love provided a solid foundation for their lives. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Chapman and her husband, Lionel; grandson, Dr. Kyle Newsom and his wife, Bethany; granddaughters, Keri Newsom and Isabella Congtang; and beloved great grandchildren, Adelyn, Kathryn, Caroline and Benjamin.

The loss of Vern Lafleur leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to have known him. May we find solace in our collective memories as we celebrate Vern's well-lived life.
