VILLE PLATTE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for James Richard Mayeaux at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Ville Platte. He will be laid to rest in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery following the Mass.
James Richard Mayeaux, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023, in Ville Platte, Louisiana at the age of 77. He was born on Tuesday, December 4, 1945, in Redell, Louisiana. Richard had a fulfilling career spanning 36 years with the United States Postal Service as a dedicated mail carrier. Additionally, he worked for O'Reilly's and Auto Zone as an auto parts delivery man and contributed his services to the Census Bureau.
Richard’s proudest accomplishments extended beyond his professional life. He served as a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church and was passionate about organizing bingo games for the church community. His commitment to his faith and his dedication to serving others were central aspects of his life. Richard will always be remembered for his kind-heartedness and selflessness. He touched the lives of numerous individuals with his generosity and compassion. His friends held him in high regard for his unwavering loyalty and steadfast friendship. His passing has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him but his memory will forever remain as a beacon of light.
Family was of great importance to Richard. He shared his life with his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara Mayeaux, whom he deeply adored. Together, they created a nurturing home filled with love and warmth. He leaves behind three sons: David Scott Mayeaux of Metarie; Dr. Stacy Wayne Mayeaux and his wife, Jackie Susan of Opelousas; and Martin Brook Mayeaux and his wife, Heather of Shreveport. Richard took immense joy in being a grandfather to Sydney, Caden, Amelia, Connor, Mason, and Annaleise. Richard’s memory lives on through his additional surviving family members, including his brother, Randall Ward Mayeaux and his wife, Donna of Eunice and his sister, Shirley Hodges and her husband, Harrold of Crowley.
Richard was preceded in death by: his father, Wilson Mayeaux; mother, Lou Ann Guillory; stepfather, Walker Ward; father-in-law, Zachary Fontenot; and mother-in-law, Berna Fontenot.
Richard’s memory will be honored during a visitation which will take place at Ardoin's Funeral Home located at 709 W Main St in Ville Platte on Monday, November 20, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, starting at 8:00 AM until time of service.
