Ville Platte Funeral services for Mr. James Hottell Fontenot, 74, will be held Monday, December 17, 2007 at 11am in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Evangeline Memorial Cemetery. Fr. Gil Dutel will officiate the services.

James Hottell Fontenot passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at 9:25pm surrounded by his loved ones.

Hottell has suffered two massive strokes since July 3rd of this year and was being cared for by Evangeline Extended Care at Savoy Memorial Hospital of Mamou, Louisiana at the time of his passing. Born in Pine Point, Louisiana on February 13, 1933, Hottell graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1951.

He was a well known and much respected Ville Platte Businessman and member of the City Council from 1961-1973. He was elected Mayor of Ville Platte in 1981 and retired in 1993 after serving three terms. Many of you will also remember him for the 12 step work he did as a 34 year member of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Our husband, brother, and father worked tirelessly and unselfishly to enrich the town of Ville Platte and the lives of those whose paths he crossed.

He is preceded in death by two sons, Paul Hottell Fontenot and James Timothy Fontenot and his parents, Alexis and Victoria Fontenot.

Survivors include his wife, Priscilla Landreneau Fontenot of Ville Platte; two daughters, Vicki Fontenot Brassette and Priscilla Ann Taylor and husband, David both of LaPorte, Tx; one sister, Irene Fusilier of Ville Platte; six grandchildren, Hans Mitchell Vidrine and wife, Raquel, Ashi Prejean, Justin Paul Fontenot, Dusti Love Fontenot Culbertson, James Paul Vidrine, and Ryan Chase Taylor; five great grandchildren, Cy Paul Fontenot, Ava Soleil Prejean, Abigayle Gladys Flesh Fontenot, Annalyssa Amber Flesh Fontenot, and Hannah Taylor Vidrine; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 15, 2007 from 1pm until 9pm on Sunday from 12pm until 9pm and on Monday from 8am until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 7pm Sunday.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Brent Ardoin and the entire staff at Evangeline Extended Care for the love and support shown to all of us during the difficult days at the time of his illness.
