James Carroll "Gros" Deville

November 14, 1958 — October 4, 2024

James Carroll Deville “Gros”, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the age of 65. James was born on November 14, 1958. His kind-hearted nature, coupled with an unwavering dedication to his family and friends, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know him. Funeral Services will be held at Trinity Baptist Church on Monday, October 7, 2024, beginning at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at the Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery.

James was employed as a Joint Use Mapping Technician at JCL Power. His strong work ethic extended to his previous role as the proud owner of Deville’s Seafood for 16 years, where he served the community with fresh seafood and a welcoming smile. He also served as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church, offering his guidance and support, embodying the true essence of faith and service.

James cherished the simple joys in life, relishing summers spent at Astro World and treasured camping trips at Toledo Bend with family. Those summer days were filled with laughter and love, painting memories that will forever remain etched in the hearts of his loved ones. He was a passionate fan of LSU, sharing his enthusiasm with those around him, and he found joy in outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing. Often, he would unwind by watching Rabbit Dog Hunting and Fishing videos on YouTube, his eyes lighting up with every exciting chase.

A generous giver, James was known for his selflessness. He had a profound love for his family, and nothing brought him more happiness than being a doting grandfather. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he poured his heart into creating unforgettable moments with them. His gentle spirit, paired with a vibrant sense of humor, made him not just a father and grandfather, but a true friend to those fortunate enough to be in his presence.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 48 years, Barbara Deville; his sons, Eric Deville (Amanda) and Spencer Deville; his daughter, Brandy Barzare (Duston); his grandchildren, Jalen Deville (Brittany), Bryce Deville, Noah Deville, Wyatt Barzare, Julianne Barzare, Jase Barzare, Maddisyn Wilkinson (Jacob), Jacob Beard (Megan) and Lucas Beard. Also left to cherish his memories are his precious, great-grandchildren, Gannon, Baylor, Kashton and Illa; and his brother, Gerald Deville (Melissa).

James is preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Mary Alice Deville; and his mother-in-law, Joyce Romero.
