Ville Platte - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017 for Mrs. Irene Fusilier at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte. Father Tom Voorhies will officiate the Mass. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Ardoin's Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2017. It will continue at 8:00 a.m. until time of service on Friday, January 13, 2017. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Irene Fontenot Fusilier, a long-time resident of Ville Platte, died on January 10, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family. Born on July 10, 1921 at her home in the rural community of Pine Point, Louisiana. Irene grew up as an only child to Alexis Fontenot and Victoria "Blanche" Deshotel until the age of 11 when her brother James Hottel Fontenot was born. After graduating high school, Irene went on to further her education by attending a business school in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Her profession included Clerical and Bookkeeping work for various businesses. On August 16, 1939, she married Joffre Fusilier, she and Joffre were owners of Fusilier's Packing Plant. Then they went on to have four children. Irene proudly served as the First Miss Ville Platte, a Catholic Daughter of 50 plus years and volunteered her time as a Pink Lady and other various organizations. She enjoyed painting, sewing, traveling, gardening and spending time with her family and friends. Irene loved holidays and family get-togethers; anytime spent with her family was important to her. She will be missed dearly by all who loved her. Her greatest accomplishments were being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Irene's greatest gift she left behind was her passion for life and love for her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Hesnor; sons, Jimmy Fusilier and Michael Wayne Fusilier and wife Debbie; daughter-in-law, Francis Augustine Fusilier; grandchildren, Julie Fusilier, Chad Hesnor, Lisa Carol Smith, Alison Pitre, Jason Fusilier, Kristie Evans, Joffre Wendel Fusilier, II, Jeffre Fusilier, Niklaus Fusilier, Jacob Fusilier and Kate Audrey Fusilier; 20 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Priscilla Fontenot; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alexis and Victoria Deshotel Fontenot; first husband and father of her children, Joffre Fusilier; second husband, Rodney Fontenot; brother, Hottel Fontenot; son, Joffre Wendel Fusilier; and son-in-law, Milan Hesnor.
The family would like to thank all of her care-givers who made her life comfortable during her time of need.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or a charity of their choice.
The family has entrusted Ardoin's Funeral Home of Ville Platte with arrangements.
