Harold Manuel, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at the age of 71. Born in Ville Platte, Louisiana, on January 5, 1953, Harold's life was a testament of love, resilience, and warmth. Funeral Services will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Ville Platte on Thursday, November 7, 2024, beginning at 11:00 am with Doctor Lee Walton officiating. Burial will follow at Shaw Cemetery.
For more than 40 years, Harold served as a Barge Engineer for McDermott, spending his career working offshore overseas. His dedication to his profession not only made him a well-regarded figure in his field but also ensured he was a good provider for his beloved family.
Harold took great joy in family gatherings, particularly those centered around his love for Barbeque. He was known for his signature dish of Baby Back Ribs, which earned him many compliments and became a source of cherished memories. His favorite phrase, “Have Mercy, they were good!” reflects not just his culinary talent but also the joy he derived from sharing these moments with family.
In addition to his professional pursuits and culinary skills, Harold had a passion for astronomy and a keen interest in all things space related. He enjoyed visiting casinos where he often played the Buffalo Slots and penny games, sometimes winning big. A true sports enthusiast, he was a huge fan of the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers, and he once proudly held the title of Golden Glove Boxer.
Harold leaves behind his beloved wife of 39 years and five months, Marilyn Manuel of Ville Platte. He is survived by his sons, Glynn Manuel and wife, Missy of Mamou, Chris Manuel and wife, Miranda of Ville Platte, Tim Manuel of Ville Platte, Jessie Rider of Ville Platte, and Eric Rider and companion, Genise of Ville Platte; his daughter, Bonnie Meyer and husband, Wayne of Easton and his sisters, Sherry Menard and husband, Floyd of Eunice, and Bobbie Bordelon and husband, Earl of Eunice.
Harold's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Amanda, Stetson, Linda, Harold, T-Wayne, Crystal, Hayden, Chaz, Brianna, Dylan, Christina, Jordan, Noah, Shannon, Sylas, Emily, Nathan, Caleb, and Katelyn as well as his great-grandchildren Dawson, Marti, Alex, Remi, and Lydia.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carey Manuel and Alice Bordelon; his son, Kevin James Rider; his daughter, Christian Rider; his granddaughter, Elijah Faith Rider; his sisters, Bonnie Manuel, Pat Manuel, and Grace Hudson, and his brother, JC Manuel.
Visitation for Harold will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Ville Platte on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 10:00 am until 8:00 pm. Visitation will resume on Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 8:00 am until the time of service.
