VILLE PLATTE - It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Gilbert Ray Deshotel, 81, announces his passing on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Mercy Regional Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte with burial to follow in the Evangeline Memorial Cemetery. Father Matthew Barzare will officiate services.
Gilbert was retired from the Calcasieu Paper Mill and the city of Ville Platte. When not working hard to provide for his family, he was umpiring basesball, cooking, fishing, and hunting. Gilbert was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte and was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. Although Gilbert liked to "do it all", his greatest joy was that of spending time with his family.
A loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather, Gilbert will be greatly missed by his wife of 63 years, Emma Joy Deshotel of Ville Platte and his son Kenneth "Dizzy" Deshotel of Silsbee, Texas. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his sister Della Manuel of Ville Platte, two grandchildren Danielle and Courtney Deshotel, and seven great grandchildren.
He now rests in Heaven with his parents Turley and Luda Granger Deshotel.
At the request of the Deshotel family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Sunday, February 21 from 9:00 AM until 8:30 PM and again on Monday, February 22 beginning at 8:00 AM until time of services. A rosary will be prayed in his honor Sunday evening at 6:30 PM.
