VILLE PLATTE It is with great sadness that the family of Gerald James Ortego, 76, announces his passing on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at his residence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 1:30 PM Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at The Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church of Ville Platte. Rite of Committal will follow in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum with Father Joshua Guillory as Celebrant.
Gerald was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother he leaves behind his devoted wife of 56 years, Lou Ann Ortego and their four children: Mitch Ortego of Ville Platte, Kirk Ortego of Ville Platte, Lynn Ortego and his wife, Sue also of Ville Platte and Liz Fontenot and her husband, Luke of Youngsville. He was blessed with six grandchildren: Josh Ortego, Cody Ortego, Taylor Ortego, Blair Fontenot, Zachary Fontenot and Jacob Fontenot he was further blessed with three great grandchildren. He will most certainly be missed by his brother, Calvin Ortego of Houma.
He will now reunite in Heaven with his parents, Fabuse and Amy Fontenot Ortego and three of his siblings: George Ortego, Ronald Ortego and Berna Belle Stanbrough. They await his arrival with open arms and joyous hearts.
At the request of the Ortego family, visitation will take place at Ardoins Funeral Home of Ville Platte beginning at 4:00 PM Monday, February 18, 2013 until 8:00 PM and will continue at 8:00 AM Tuesday morning until the time of the services. A Rosary will be recited in his honor at 6:30 Monday evening.
