Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 12pm in Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Ethel Lee Lafleur Fuselier DeVille. Burial will follow in the Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery.
Miss Ethel passed away peacefully at her daughter Maries home after a hard fought battle against Alzheimers Disease and Esophageal Cancer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George M. Lafleur and Eulalie Bertrand Lafleur, her first husband, J.C. Fuselier, her second husband, Lionel B. DeVille, Sr., one son, William Bill DeVille, one grandson Douglas Smokey DeVille, Jr., and her brother, Joseph G. Liz Lafleur.
Mrs. Ethel graduated from Charity Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. She started her career as a nurse at Savoy Hospital in Memo and retired from Ville Platte Medical Center.
An avid gardener and artist she gave her paintings as gifts to her children. She was an active member of her community. For years she worked on the Cleanest City Campaign and served as Chairwoman. She was a member of the Magnolia Garden Club and held many offices. Mrs. DeVille and her second husband, Lionel ran Maison DeVille Bed and Breakfast. They housed many medical students who shadowed physicians in the Ville Platte community.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who taught us not only how to live to the fullest, but also how to accept lifes burdens with dignity. She will be sadly missed.
She is survived by one sister, Janette Jim Bellow, four daughters, Leona Mike,dec. Guidry of Tomball, Tx., Ann Jack Evans of Tonkawa, Ok, Roxanne Peter Cali of Metairie, and Marie David Walther of Milton. Also survived by seven sons, Lionel Butch Judy DeVille, Jr., Douglas Louisa DeVille, Jody Fuselier, Paul ShelleyDeVille all of Ville Platte, Steven KatieDeVille of the Woodlands, Tx, Peter Paula Fuselier of Basile, and Quentin Diana Fuselier of Milton. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be observed Tuesday, March 17, 2009 from 10:30 am until 10pm and again on Wednesday from 8am until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 7pm Tuesday.
The family would like to acknowledge Cornerstone Village South Assisted Living for their kindness while she resided there and Hospice of Acadiana for their wonderful care and guidance through this difficult time.
