VILLE PLATTE – Funeral Services will be held for Elsie Eugene Day Elliott at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 11, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Ville Platte, La. Jamie Elliott will conduct funeral services. Burial will take place in Evangeline Memorial Cemetery.
Elsie Eugene Day Elliott,90, was born in Pelahatchie, Mississippi on November 8, 1931. Jean, as she was known for her entire life, was ushered into the presence of the Lord she loved, obeyed, and served on March 5, 2022.
Education was very important to her. She graduated from both Louisiana College and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary to become a pastor’s wife and high school English teacher. Most of their ministry years were spent at FBC Ville Platte. They raised their five children there. Music was a big part of their lives as well.
Leaving behind to cherish her memory, her writings, and her wisdom are her children and grandchildren, both natural and by marriage, for once you joined the family you were “hers”. There are no “in-laws”. Her children are Patty and Max Hutto, David Elliott, Janet and Bobby Powell, Cathy and Kevin Willis, and Jamie and Vickie Elliott. She also leaves behind her “adopted” son, John La Tour and his wife, Elizabeth. She also has a brother, Fred Day and his wife Janice, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
One of Jean’s favorite activities was to sit and have a good “spiritual” talk with family members. It was a high honor for her when the grandchildren, who called her “G-ma”, would tell her about their struggles and their victories so she could pray for them more specifically.
These “grands” have been challenged to carry the torch of faith into the next generation: Megan Ruth Elliott, Anna and Michael Luneau, Thomas Ryan Elliott and Tami Everett, Daniel Hutto, Nathan Elliott, Matthew and Keri Beth Powell, Caleb and Mallory Willis, Mark and Erin Powell, Logan Willis, Cari and Trigg La Tour, Kaitlyn and Thomas Littleton, Tori Elliott and Austin Tinsley, Ginny and Kyle Blush, Ben La Tour, Mary B. La Tour, Anna Beth La Tour and Drew Calvert, Nate La Tour and Kacia Young, Luke La Tour, Essie La Tour, and Fletcher La Tour. The “GREATS” are Clarke, Kara Jane, Nellie, Rend, Joanna, Sarah, Olivia, and Walker.
To the family she was Mom, Jean, Mama Jean, Aunt Jean, Grandma, or GiGi. To others she was a teacher, pastor’s wife, friend, choir director, or mentor. To all she was loved and revered.
Those preceding her in homegoing are her beloved husband, Rev. Leroy Elliott, her daughter by marriage, Bonny Fewell Elliott, her mother Gladys Irene Kenerly Day Hargrove, her father Ocie Leon Day, her sister Anita Howard, and her two brothers Harry and Julian Day.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Ville Platte on Thursday, March 10, 2022, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Friday, March 11, 2022, from 9:00 AM until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you contribute to one of Jean’s favorite causes: Louisiana Christian University, the American Bible Society, or IMB Hunger Relief.
