Dustin Joshua "Poose" Fontenot, a compassionate and hardworking machinist and painter, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024, in Bayou Chicot, Louisiana, at the age of 43. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Ville Platte. Burial will follow in the MB Fontenot Cemetery with Fr. Stephen Pellessier officiating services.
Dustin Joshua “Poose” Fontenot was born on Monday, March 30, 1981, in Mamou, Louisiana to Emery and Kathy Fontenot. Dustin will be remembered for his kind and loving nature. He enjoyed engaging in conversations with his family and cherishing memories together. As a devoted father, he took great pride in his son, Devin.
Dustin, known to many as "Poose," had a fulfilling career working as a machinist at Cooper Cameron and Ville Platte Iron Works, and as a painter for Johnny Bordelon's Painting. His dedication to his work was admirable, and his craftsmanship left a lasting impact on those around him.
One of Dustin's proudest accomplishments was the heroic act of saving the life of Allan Monier by utilizing techniques he learned during his time at Bayou Chicot High School. His quick thinking and skills made a significant difference in someone else's life.
Aside from his professional achievements, in his leisure time, Dustin found joy in playing the guitar, fishing, watching UFC fights, attending concerts, and playing basketball. These hobbies showcased his diverse interests and love for life.
A man of integrity and warmth, Dustin was described as caring and hardworking by those who knew him best. His presence brought comfort to those around him, and his memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Dustin leaves behind his parents, Emery, and Kathy Deville Fontenot of Bayou Chicot; son, Devin K. Fontenot of Texas; brother, Chad Fontenot and wife, Angela Fontenot of Bayou Chicot; and sister, Melanie Lafleur and husband, Joey of Bayou Chicot. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his aunt, Cecilia Annette Bergeron and husband, Joel of Bayou Chicot; niece, Ariel Lynn Fontenot of Lafayette; three nephews, Joshua Cade Lafleur and wife, Kaitlyn of Oakdale, Joseph Chase Lafleur of Bayou Chicot, and Sawyer Jude Lafleur also of Bayou Chicot; and one great nephew, Enlay Lafleur.
Dustin is preceded in death by his grandparents, Junior, and Zola Deville and Aliday and Carrie Fontenot.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Dustin’s life will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will resume on Friday, April 12, 2024, from 9:00 AM until dismissal for services. A rosary will be recited on Thursday evening at 6:00 PM and will be led by Deacon Ben Soileau.
