Don Foster Whittington

Don F. Whittington, a beloved Educator, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother, and Coach, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the age of 84. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Gates of Heaven Cemetery. Father Mitch Guidry will preside over the services.

He proudly served as an educator in Evangeline Parish for 33 years, shaping young minds and contributing to the educational landscape of his hometown.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Margie Naquin Whittington; his daughters, Karen W. Landreneau (Boyd) of Mamou, LA, and Monica W. Welch (Kenny) of Westlake, LA; his son, Randy P. Whittington (Kristie) of Lake Charles, LA; as well as nine cherished grandchildren, including Jenci Bice (Travis), Jessica Kelly, Hali Miller (Devon), Heidi Corley, Brogan Landreneau (Vivian), Tanner Landreneau (Chelsey), Brandon Whittington (Sarah), Cody Whittington, and Rusty Welch. He also leaves behind 16 great-grandchildren who will fondly remember him: Daegan, Ainsley, Zane, Maycie, Emma, River, Adleigh, Anna, Callen, Beckett, Myles, Gus, Ryan, Violet, Kash, and Denver. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Donald Barone of Pineville, LA.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Whittington and Nellie Mae Oliver Whittington, and his sister, Gayle W. Barone.

At the request of the family, a visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Ville Platte on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, beginning at 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a Rosary being prayed at 6:00 pm by Deacon Ben Soileau. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 8:00 am until the time of service.

The Whittington family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Stat Home Health, St. Joseph Hospice, and Unlimited First Name Basics Home Care for the compassionate care provided to Don during his journey, particularly to Izetta Vallien.
