Carl Raymond Carraway, a beloved figure and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025, in Pine Prairie at the age of 92. Born on February 25, 1933, Carl dedicated his life to service, family and his passions, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered by all who knew him.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at Pine Prairie Church of Christ followed by interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Carl proudly served in the United States Marine Corp for three years, demonstrating a commitment to his country that shaped his character and values. His military service instilled in him a sense of discipline and honor; qualities he carried with him throughout his life.
In 1956, Carl married the love of his life, Laura Deshotels Carraway. Their union, which lasted an impressive 69 years, was a testament to their unwavering love and companionship. Together, they navigated life’s challenges, celebrated joys, and built a family that would become their pride and joy.
After his time in the military, Carl retired as an oilfield mechanic, a profession that showcased his incredible skills and work ethic. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Carl found solace and joy in gardening.
Carl’s contributions extended beyond his work and hobbies; he was a proud Korean War Veteran who stood as a beacon of strength and resilience for his family and community. His life was a rich tapestry woven with experiences that shaped his approach to life, love, and family.
Carl is survived by his loving wife, Laura Deshotels Carraway; daughter, Cynthia Gursky and her husband, Christopher; sons, Gary Carraway and his wife, Dana M. Carraway, Cody Carraway and his wife, Tunita Carraway, and Chuncey Carraway and his wife, Dana D. Carraway; grandchildren, Chasmin Cummings, Misty Fusilier, Dusty Odom, Marty Odom, Lee Carraway, Cade Carraway, Lane Carraway, Regan Carraway, Skylare Carraway, and Mariah Carraway; step grandson, Michael Gursky; great-grandchildren, Niko, Mason, Layla, Ellie, Wyatt, Anna K., Kinley, Garner, Noah, Molly, Eli, Asher, Cyrus, Zara and Ace; and three step great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Bryar, and Garrett. He leaves behind not just memories, but also the profound impact he had on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy will endure through the lives of those he touched, as they carry forward the lessons of love, dedication, and strength that he modeled throughout his remarkable life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Mary McCormick Carraway; beloved aunt and uncle, Douglas and Versie Deville; sister, Sharon Chapelle; and brothers, Donald and JC Carraway.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-9:00 PM on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Pine Prairie Church of Christ and will continue on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 from 10:00 AM until time of service.
As we remember Carl, let us celebrate his life, recognizing the values he embodied and the love he shared. He will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who loved him.
