Bernita Guillory

March 23, 1933 — July 30, 2020

SHREVEPORT – Funeral Services will be held at an 11:00 AM, Mass of Christian Burial, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 for Bernita Faye “Bonnie/Nanny” Guillory, 87, who passed away on July 30, 2020. She was a native of Ville Platte, LA and lived there the majority of her life.  At the time of her death, she resided in Shreveport, LA.

Bonnie will be remembered for so many inspirational characteristics.  She was a lifelong educator and thoroughly enjoyed teaching elementary school where she had a profoundly positive impact on so many lives. Her love for, and approach to, teaching inspired many of her nieces, nephews, and former students to pursue teaching as a career. She was often stopped on the street by a former student who fondly remembered her kindness and her impact on their lives. Bonnie loved young children, often spoiling her young relatives with candy and gifts.  She was happy by nature, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was easily tickled. Many will long remember the almost hysterical long bouts of laughter over one of her jokes or expressions.  Bonnie loved to hug and she was a kisser: she would grab a face between both hands and express her love by kissing on the check and mouth in warm expression.  Joie de vive exuded out of her and was contagious to all around her.  She cleaned fastidiously, often breaking things in her zeal and the impetus for many a new family joke.  She was a great dancer…in her young days cutting the rug in the jitterbug. And, Bonnie was a fashionista, always dressing in the latest styles with great taste and fanfare.

Bonnie had an amazingly strong will paired with a caring heart sharing her love of God, family, friends, and life. She spent the greater part of her life caring for her mother and her brother. She and her brother were inseparable until his death. Her strong faith in God carried her through the many changes in her life. Bonnie will be sorely missed by everyone she touched.

She is survived by her six nieces and nephews and their respective Spouses/Partners: Charlotte Cedotal Blackburn and husband Wayne Blackburn; George Cedotal; Tricia Cedotal and Partner Charles Hendricks; June Guillory Inhern; Bill Guillory and Stephan Guillory.  She is also survived by her 7 great nieces and nephews: David “Forest” Caskey, Kathryn Caskey and husband Martin Rues, Johanna Cedotal Haller and husband Justin; Sophia Marie Cedotal, Claude Peter Cedotal,  Alyce Chachere and her husband Nick, Jean-Paul Inhern and wife Sheree, Anne-Marie Lafleur and husband Justin, Phlippe Inhern and wife Andree;19 great, great nieces and nephews.  And her sister-in-law Verna Soileau Guillory and dear cousins Norma Plattsmier, Gene Soileau and cousin “sister” Delores Fontenot.

She was preceded in death by her parents Laurent E. Guillory and Pearl Fontenot Guillory and her siblings Helen Grace Guillory Cedotal and husband Claude Jean Cedotal, James “Jim/Bro” Gladwin Guillory and William Roy Guillory.
