Benny "T-Gam" Fontenot

VILLE PLATTE – Funeral services will be held at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte on Monday, February 1, 2021 for Benny “T-Gam” Phil Fontenot, 72, who passed away on Friday, January 29, 2021 in Ville Platte.

Father Tom Voohries will be celebrant of the Mass and will conduct funeral services.

Burial will take place in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Acadiana Veterans Honor Guard.

Benny “T-Gam” Phil Fontenot was born on February 26, 1948 in Point Blue, Louisiana to Lindsey Chris Fontenot and Gussie Fontenot.  He was a 1966 graduate of Chataignier High School where he was a star basketball player.  T-Gam courageously served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam war.  He was a machinist by trade and worked at Cooper Cameron for 30 years until his retirement.  T-Gam was a devoted family man and cherished every moment spent with them.  He was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed spending his time hunting and fishing. Growing a vegetable garden and raising goats and chickens were also things he enjoyed.  T-Gam had a soft spot in his heart for stray dogs and took in any that came his way.  This kind, loving man will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.

T-Gam is survived by the love of his life and wife of 49 years, Peggy Fontenot;

two sons, Troy Noah Deville of Opelousas and Heath Fontenot and wife, Christina of Point Blue; one daughter, Lolita Vidrine and husband, Danny of Plaisance; and  12 grandchildren, Rebecca Vidrine, Jessica Deville, Troy Deville, II, Kelsea Deville, Jacques Fontenot, Ariele Aymond, Gabriel Fontenot, Noah Fontenot, Analise Fontenot, Ross Vidrine, Luke Vidrine and Alyssa Vidrine.  Also left behind to cherish his memory are his 14 great grandchildren, Madison, Gavin, Riley, Kortlyn, Addie, Cohen, Jonah, Titus, Ezra, Micah, Caine, Ava, Audrey, and Amelia and one sister, Dorothy “Dot” Dohmann and husband, Gerald of Maringouion, Louisiana.

T-Gam is preceded in death by his parents, Lindsey Chris and Gussie Fontenot and grandson Jean-Pierre Fontenot.

At the request of the family, a visitation will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2021 beginning at 9:00 AM and continuing until 8:00 PM.  Visitation will resume on Monday, February 1, 2021 from 8:00 AM until time of service.  A rosary will be prayed in his honor on Sunday evening at 6:00 PM and will be conducted by Deacon Tim Donovan.
