Barbara Ann Fontenot

VILLE PLATTE - Barbara Ann Fontenot of Ville Platte, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2023, at the age of 80 surrounded by her loved ones. Born and raised in Ville Platte, Barbara was a cherished member of the community throughout her life. She brought joy to everyone she met with her warm smile and kind heart. Barbara and her husband, Grady Fontenot, were devoted parishioners of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years. Their strong faith guided them through the ups and downs of life.

Barbara's compassionate nature led her to serve her community as a pink lady at Mercy Regional Medical Center for numerous years. She dedicated herself to helping others and found fulfillment in providing comfort and support to those in need. In her leisure time, Barbara enjoyed playing bingo and pocchino, finding delight in friendly competition and creating cherished memories with friends and family. Additionally, she spent part of her life as a substitute teacher after graduating from Ville Platte High School.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Grady Fontenot. She will be deeply missed by her sons Brady Fontenot and his wife Lisa Chapman Fontenot of Ville Platte, and Scott Fontenot and his wife Tina Fontenot of Ville Platte. Her grandchildren Heather and husband Dwayne Ledoux, Jade and wife Allison Fontenot, Tiffany and husband Vincent Schexnayder, Joshua and wife Skye Fontenot. Barbara is also survived by her great-grandchildren Alyssa, Kaleb, Peyton, Paisley, Carter, Allie, Ava, Elyse, who will carry on her legacy of love. In addition, she leaves behind great-great-grandchildren Ryker and Hazel and sister, Gwen Sonnier, and her husband Bobby of Eunice.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Amaze and Tilda Mary Bertrand. 

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Barbara's life at Ardoin's Funeral on October 19, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Rosary Service will be conducted by Deacon Ben Soileau at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Friday, October 20, 2023, from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in memory of Barbara at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Tom Voorhies officiating. Barbara will be laid to rest at the Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery.
