CHATAGNIER, LA - Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, October 25, 2024 at Mt. Carmel Cemetery Mausoleum in Chatagnier, La. with Father Clement officiating. Anita Kohler Manuel, domiciled in Chatagnier, Evangeline Parish, La., passed away peacefully at the age of 98 in the comfort of her room at Oak Lane Nursing Home in Eunice, La.
A woman of deep Catholic faith, she was a parishioner of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Chatagnier for many decades and a long-time member of the Mr. Carmel Ladies Alter Society. Her faith was her foundation through times of joy and sorrow.
Anita was a 1946 graduate of Our Lady of the Lake nursing program in Baton Rouge. She served as nursing supervisor at Moosa Memorial Hospital and as a registered nurse with the Evangeline Parish Health Unit. In her time off, she was often called on for medical treatment and/or counseling within the community. She was commonly referred to as the “neighborhood nurse.” Her dedication to the nursing profession and the school she loved so much was evident through the creation of the Anita Kohler Manuel Endowed Scholarship in Nursing at OLOL. The scholarship would enable students from Evangeline Parish studying in the nursing program to benefit from her generosity. Her class photo, nursing cape, hat and lapel pin are on display at the University to share with current students the dedication and love she had for the school and her chosen vocation.
Anita Kohler Manuel was preceded in death by her parents Lamy William Kohler and Edna Ruth Kohler, her devoted husband Lenus Lionel Manuel, her loving son John Brent Manuel, her beloved brother Marvin William Kohler.
She is survived by her daughter, two grandchildren, her beloved sisters, Linda Geiling of Howard, Colorado and Geraldine Pialle of Baton Rouge, La., along with her special friend and caretaker Virginia M. Chauvin.
A memorial mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date for family and friends.
Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Ville Platte is in charge of arrangements and invites family and friends to leave words of comfort and precious memories for those she loved.
